Senior Basketball Sponsorship/Fundraising 2022

Over the past month Jasmine Dodemaide (Manager of the JPII Basketball Team) and Matthew Wood (Coach of the JPII Basketball Team) and all athletes of Senior Basketball Team have been working hard behind the scenes to help the Basketball Team raise money to get them to Nationals, Palmerston North, North Island.

From the short three and a half week turnover from Tournament week to Nationals, the boys have been able to raise $814.35 through school activities. This was from the help of staff and students who supported the mufti days and sausage sizzles that were run by the Basketball Team. Thank you to Terri Fairhall who donated 5kgs of sausages for the BBQ.

The team also ran a Wood Raffle, with the help of Dan Duggan (parent of a player) who donated a ute load of Rata, Jasmine Dodemaide (Manager) donated a trailer load of Native Wood (black beech) and a $50 Mitre Ten Gift Voucher, and Mitre Ten Mega Greymouth who also donated a $50 Mitre Ten Gift Voucher. These people/companies helped form the prizes of the raffle.

John from Duchenne Denture Specialist has been a huge sponsor of the Basketball team this year. He has provided the team with a personalised training top and hoodie which presents each athlete's names and displays the school logo. Since qualifying for Nationals, and being wary of the short turnaround time John donated another $2000 to the team. This will be evenly distributed amongst the team to help cover any leftover cost making the tournament more affordable for all players and their families.

As a school, this is the first time in history that a Senior Boys Basketball Team has qualified for Nationals. As a proud gesture, the school has donated $1000 to help with travel expenses and accommodation.

West Coast Basketball Association has kindly donated $500 in support of us qualifying to nationals.

Phil Gibson and Paul Gibson - Co-owners of Westimber LTD have generously donated $1500 towards the tournament. This covered the full cost of the ferry crossing and the rest was divided between each player.

Jade Coleman, owner of Coleman Construction Solutions kindly sponsored the whole team with new sports bags. These bags are unique to each player displaying their name and school logo.

Kelvin Fisher (JPII Old Boy) who attended John Paul II High School (years 9 - 13) has donated $500 to the team for their success and wishes them the very best for Nationals.

To help fully kit out the team Jasmine Dodemaide and DJ McCallum donated the squad personalised drink bottles. Which displays the school logo and ‘basketball’ on it.

On behalf of the players, coaches and manager we would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the team, our sponsors for our personalised team wear and those who donated money across the whole team. Thank you to the school, especially the staff who have helped celebrate our success. We are, and will always be grateful for the support behind us.

Once again thank you for your ongoing support!
