League Legends in the Making

Last weekend Mac Gibson, Lochie Gibson, Matt Molloy and Liam Donaldson participated in the Rugby League SG ball Warriors trial.

This is effectively the Under-19 Warriors team.

Saturday saw Lochie, Matthew and Liam playing in the Under-16 trials, and Mac Gibson trialling for the Under-18 team.

50 players were selected from each grade, to play in an internal trial, with over 150 players applying for selection for the Junior Warriors team.

Matt Molloy and Mac Gibson were selected for their respective grades in the final 25. All the trialists from John Paul II High School played exceptionally well. Well done boys!

There was widespread media coverage for the Sunday game, the culmination of this weekend. Under 18 Junior Warrior selection played the Under 18 Scorpions squad featuring Aston Wilson from John Paul II High School, won by 2. This game was the curtain raiser for NZRL Men's Premiership match between Canterbury Bulls and Counties Manakau. The curtain raiser was the final trial match to select the Scorpion team to compete in Rotorua for NZRL National Youth Tournament and Aston Wilson has secured his position in this team. Later, in the day Matt Molloy played in the- Warriors selection who competed against the Under 16 Scorpion squad. This was a superb opportunity for our local players to be acknowledged for their sporting efforts. Congratulations to all our students.
