Heart and Lung dissection year 12 Biology

Last week the year 12 Biology students dissected plucks – hearts and lungs of sheep.

Last week the year 12 Biology students dissected plucks – hearts and lungs of sheep. This was so students could examine the structure and function of the gas exchange and circulatory system of animals. The learning activity was needed for their internal assessment on animal gas exchange and support and movement adaptations. The students were able to see the structure of the blood vessels and organs, and respiratory tubes in the lungs and trachea, and the pathway that blood travels to collect oxygen from the lungs. It was a great opportunity to fully understand how body structures work, and students participated fully. The plucks were supplied by Westland Processors Limited and they were perfect for the activity, we are so grateful to have had this learning opportunity.
