Year 13 Biology Trip to Orana Wildlife Park

Finally, after 2 postponements JPII met the gorillas at Orana Park!

The Year 13 Biology students left last Monday for a 2-day trip to Orana Wildlife Park in Christchurch for an engaging extra learning experience for students.

On Monday we learned how data was collected on human evolution by comparing models of skull fossils and the behaviour of living primates – Siamang monkeys and gorillas.

On Tuesday we woke up to fluffy snow falling outside and it was pretty cold in the park. It didn’t seem to slow the keas down in the least though, and we collected data on the behaviour of 3 of them who were very active.

We checked out the rest of the animals before we headed home through the snow covered pass.
