JPII Breakfast Club

Our Champagnat Marist Leader, Kyra Johnson and her fellow student Leaders are looking for help from you to continue this amazing initiative.

Kia ora JPII whanau,

The initiative of certain student leaders and their respective committees (ie. Student Council led by Ciaran and Kyra; Hauora Committee led by Döme) has driven the creation of the Breakfast Club. Breakfast Club has been run previously, but unfortunately was not continued. This year, one of our goals was to bring this back as it provides the opportunity for students to come and eat.

Breakfast Club is a place for all students to come and have  some kai and a catch-up, there is no stigma attached and we look forward to seeing the numbers increase.

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” (Revelation 3:20)

Term 1 was a trial run for Breakfast Club. We allocated Break 1 of Mondays and Wednesdays for the past few weeks, and each week we began to see a steady flow of students. At this stage it is few, but upon the review of the club via a survey which will be sent out soon, we will determine ways to improve the club so more students can come and enjoy it. Once we have this feedback, a follow up will be sent out early next term.

We have had an immense amount of support from staff and students, however, we are still in need of:

  • Bread, and if possible a bit of a range like white, multigrain and gluten free bread to cater for all

  • Jam (apricot, raspberry, strawberry, plum, marmalades etc.)

  • Other spreads such as peanut butter, nutella, vegemite, honey

  • Canned fruit such as peaches as these are popular with Weet-bix

We understand that it is a bit of an ask for donations, but we would love to continue this Breakfast Club for the students’ wellbeing (and, in turn, their learning) so we do rely on these.

Even if it is just a single loaf of bread, or can,  we would be truly grateful for this and it would be reflected in the students’ enjoyment.

If you do have anything you would like to donate, please drop it off in the office.

Thank you!

Kyra Johnson
