2022 National Dutch Speech and essay Competition

The competition is back for Dutch Week 2022, and another opportunity for a student to become a youth Ambassador for a day in Wellington, as well as other great prizes. We have also added an essay competition for those students who are perhaps not comfortable delivering a speech in person.

The competition is open to students in Year 9 - 13 enrolled in a New Zealand secondary school. The embassy estimates there are as many as 150,000 people in New Zealand with Dutch heritage, and we would really appreciate your help in alerting all Dutch and Dutch heritage students in your school about the competition, and inviting them to enter. We are a unique competition that the speeches are accepted in both Dutch and in English (the essay competition is in Dutch only though). The translation of the essay topic is "What can the Netherlands learn from New Zealand".

The closing date for the essay competition is 15 April and pre-entries to the speech competition close on 25 April. The finals for the speech competition is an online event on the 29 April during Dutch week.
