Mercy Day Mass
On 24 September, Ngā Whaea Atawhai o Aotearoa (Sisters of Mercy New Zealand ) celebrated Mercy Day with pupils from John Paul II High School. The Feast remembers the opening of the first House of Mercy in Dublin on this day in 1827. Present at the special Mass celebrated by Fr Matthew were the Mercy sisters from our community.
Catherine McAuley’s had a vision of a world on fire with the love of God and she felt inspired to give her life to serve others and bring about a change so that the from the poorest to the richest, all would be welcomed as God’s family. Through education and acts of service, to this day, Catherine’s dream and mission are still coming to fulfillment.
The Sisters of Mercy are now in 40 countries worldwide, engaging in the works of Mercy.
