JPII Students Participate in Japanese Immersion Trip

Senior Japanese 2020 students were finally able to take their Japanese Immersion Trip to Christchurch.

Senior Japanese 2020 students were finally able to take their Japanese Immersion Trip to Christchurch on October 2nd, the first day of the October school holidays. A day trip was necessary because of Level 2 restrictions preventing an overnight stay.

The first stop was Northlands Mall to check out The Anime Shop. We also discovered Yoyoso, a Japanese home goods store there. After a good look around, we headed to Christchurch’s city centre for lunch at Amaterrace Teppanyaki Restaurant. The name means heaven terrace and the food certainly lived up to its heavenly title. The students were able to try sashimi (raw fish) and takoyaki (octopus in savory dough) as well as the grilled delights prepared before them. The chef was amazing and sent tamagoyaki (fried omelet) into our waiting opened mouths with amusing results.

Next, we headed to Scorpio books to check out their extensive manga (comic) collection and walk off some of our lunch. The final stop was Japan Mart outside of the Riccarton Mall. As we were too full to eat anything else, the students grabbed some snacks and omiyage (souvenirs) to share with their friends and family.

It was a jam packed day, but well worth the wait as witnessed by our smiling faces and full bellies on the way home.
