Feast day of St John Paul II

Lord God, we bring our school into Your mighty hands. May You bless the learners, teachers, and staff who work here, so that the learning process to discover how great You are happens smoothly.

May You, Almighty God, make our school be a place of great discovery, adventure, and a place where we all learn to love and love to learn. Help us to respect, value, and treat each other as brothers and sisters. We pray this through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.  Amen.

This week has been a huge success, students and staff alike have been busy preparing for the Aotearoa Feast Day of St John Paul II. Unfortunately due to Level 2 Covid-19 restrictions currently in place, the Polish Ambassador was unable to attend the student exhibition and parish Mass.

Nevertheless we launched into Feast Day with gusto! We had red and white jelly cups for all students, pierogi for staff morning tea, and a very special thanks to all the staff who helped prepare this. The Ambassador has presented to the school the ‘Totus Tuus’ cup, Totus Tuus, being the motto of Pope John Paul II, and will be presented annually to a student who lives out the motto.

Special thanks to Mr Berry and Fr Mathew, who attended festivities this morning, presented the cup on behalf of the Ambassador and planted the rose for Pope John Paul II in our memorial garden.

At Mass today, Gerard Sullivan, Ela Roper, Libby Body, Jasmine Paneda and Kyra Johnson were commissioned as Eucharistic Ministers. Fr Mathew has spent several weeks working with these students in preparation for today.

It has been very exciting over the past few weeks in class watching the 9A and 10A students research, plan and produce this small exhibition for today. Daniel Creswell has given time to paint the Papal Crest, Jennie McMillan guided Year 9A, Susan Smith made decorations and food, and all the staff that have helped contribute their time to make today special. Many thanks to you all.
