Catholic Character

St John the Baptist was the cousin of Jesus and his spiritual precursor. When Jesus began his mission John baptized him in the River Jordan. John was the first to recognize Jesus as the Messiah and declared him to be the Lamb of God. In sacred art John is shown dressed in animal skins standing at the banks of the Jordan River. Sometimes he carries a twig staff or a lamb and points heavenward.

Feast Day is June 24

The Junior Catholic Character hub are leading the drive for a variety of items to fill the pantries of Vinnies, Salvation Army and Sisters of Mercy. So, this coming Friday, 8th of July, yeah last day of term! The students can have an ‘own clothes day” and bring along an item that is mentioned in the poster and place it in the container, check for your house colour! These will be outside the DP’s office. House points at stake.

We wish all our students going to Antioch a safe journey and look forward to hearing about their experiences in Term 3.  Late notice postponed due to covid, will advise next steps when announced.

Matariki is a time to learn about your whanau, and a time to remember those who have passed on from this world to the next. Whakapapa is an important part of Matariki celebrations.

Ma te atua koutou e manaaki,

Ms Pope

“Rapua te kaihanga o Matariki, o Tautoru;

e riro kē ana i a ia te ātārangi o te mate hei ata,

e whakapōuritia ana e ia te rā hei pō;

e karangatia ana e ia ngā wai o te moana,

e ringihia ana e ia ki runga ki te mata o te whenua:

ko te Ariki tōna ingoa. Amoho 5:8.

“He who made the Pleiades and Orion and changes the deep darkness into morning, who also darkens day into night,

who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the surface of the earth, the Lord is His name” Amos 5:8.
