West Coast Penguin Trust Visit

We were fortunate to have been visited by Lucy Waller from the West Coast Penguin Trust, Alastair from Kaikoura Ocean Research Institute, and of course, Mena the Penguin Conservation Dog.

Alastair and Lucy told our Junior students about the work the West Coast Penguin Trust do to help our precious penguins.

We were then introduced to Mena.  Mena is the only Penguin detector dog in the South Island and works with Alastair for KORI (Kaikoura Ocean Research Institute). Alastair even took us outside where he put Mena through her paces.

It was an interesting visit and we all agree, the work they do is really important, that we are lucky to have such amazing birds on our back door step, and that having dogs like Mena and people like Alastair and Lucy is awesome!
