Catholic Character

The Gospel challenges us to reflect “who is my neighbour?”

This focus on our interconnectedness with others, especially with those whose lives we seek to touch and transform, explains why te mana whakahaere – mutual enhancement – is one of Mercy’s core values. In our willingness to walk alongside others we allow ourselves to be changed and enriched by those we accompany.

E pupiri ana te atawhai i a te Atua i tona aroha.
Mercy holds us in God's loving care.
Catherine McAuley

During this period of lockdown, we can call on the vision of the Mercy values and remember that Catherine McAuley’s catch phrase was “have a good cup of tea” in times that challenged us.

So please have a cup of tea when chatting to family online, friends over the fence, and a prayerful thought for everyone.

Note: there is a focus on the six new Beatitudes that Pope Francis highlighted for the modern age. There is a wealth of material written about these on reputable Catholic internet sites.
