Future Scholars Group

We are excited to have started a future scholars group in both English and Maths this week.

Students were invited to attend based upon recent results and performance in lessons so far this year. They attend extension classes in whanau time on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The aim of this group is to provide them with extension in English and/or Maths. This will offer academic stretch and challenge, as well as plenty of opportunities to further their learning with like-minded students in a relaxed and friendly environment.

We expect this to build confidence and provide an excellent platform with which to tackle scholarship in their later years here at JPII.

As part of the process to encourage as many of our students as possible to aim high, we will regularly review the students in this group and intend to potentially open this up to other subjects later in the year.

Last year saw almost 30% of our Level 3 students achieve Excellence endorsements in their NCEA results, which is over 15% higher than the national average. There is clearly a desire amongst the students this year to reach those higher grades and to look towards scholarship, our future scholars program will no doubt help support them in doing so.
