Bootcamp in Term 3

Today Riria Wall and Bowyn Morgan spoke to a whole-school assembly about how they'll be running Bootcamp and other interesting options for student fitness this term. Students were very engaged and interested in Bowyn's story about being a professional Boxer, and the programme he's keen to offer to students. We also have Brogan Jackson returning to train students at Bootcamp.

Bootcamp will continue to include circuits that enable students to have lots of variety, and for them to be able to pace themselves for their own fitness levels. As well at Taha Tinana (physical movement), sessions will also include aspects of Taha Whānau (growing together as a school family) and Taha Wairua (including prayer/karakia to start and finish), so that students develop an increased sense of connection, belonging, and working for and with each other through group fitness. Students will also have some opportunities to explore fitness techniques that were traditionally used in Māori culture to improve dexterity, coordination, cooperation, and team work.

Additionally, we are offering a Boxing class on Friday lunchtimes, students can opt into this class, and they'll learn to box 'from the ground up'. Bowyn will be coaching this group - he grew up in Runanga and attended school in Greymouth. He was a professional boxer until recently, winning almost all of his pro fights, and represented NZ at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. He has returned to Greymouth with his family to share his skills back to the community and with young people.

We are very blessed and excited to have three super skilled and experienced trainers working with us this term. Teachers will continue to be able to get involved in Bootcamp and Boxing alongside students, and we welcome any parents or whānau who wight like to join us too - Wednesdays 9.15-10.15am, and Fridays 12.45-1.25pm.
