Netball

KHS entered two teams in the preseason netball tournament at North Canterbury. The teams played well and came away with some good wins. Thank you to Mrs Dewe, Ms Johnson, Julia Eustace, and Katie Johnson coaches of these teams.

Term 1 Sport

It has been a very busy start to 2021. KHS entered 10 teams into the Monday night Volleyball competition, which ran for five weeks. We had a large range of age groups that joined the teams and they all thoroughly enjoyed the season.

KHS teams entered in Wednesday Sport were:

Touch Rugby 4 teams; Indoor Football 2 teams; Hockey 6 Aside 2 teams; Archery; Small-bore Shooting; Canoe Polo 2 teams; Dragon Boating.

The season ran really well and we are now getting entries in for Terms 2 & 3. So far we have 17 Basketball teams to enter for the season!

Basketball

KHS had a U15 Boys Team playing in an invitational Basketball Tournament held in Christchurch at the weekend. Some great games played and awesome results with two of the games going into extra time with KHS coming out with the win. Thank you to Matt Cunninghame and Jackson Lewis for coaching the team.

The U15 National Basketball Qualifying Tournament in Christchurch was held last weekend, with four KHS students taking part in the North Canterbury teams seeking qualification. Jake Holmes, Toa Harimate-Parata, and Rama Naidu were in the boys' team, coached by KHS's own Pete McAllister, and Aliyah Newton was part of the girls' team.

Both teams played extremely well - and both have qualified for the U15 Nationals Tournament - to be held in Auckland in the July school holidays. It's very exciting for North Canterbury Basketball, as they haven't fielded their own teams for five years - so a great return to the National stage.

Also, Jake Holmes and Toa Harimate-Parata have been selected by Basketball New Zealand to attend the National U14 Development Camp, to be held in Rotorua in the April school holidays. Congratulations to them both.
