Maree Reynolds —

Term 4 has been a busy term for sport at Kaiapoi High School.

We entered eight teams into the Monday night volleyball competition. There were some very new players to the sport and, with the support of other team members, all the students picked up the rules and got on with the game. There were some wins and some losses and everybody enjoyed the season. Volleyball here at Kaiapoi High School is becoming very popular and we look forward to the competition in term 1 2021.

For term 4, we had a Junior Girls team and a Year 9 Girls team playing Touch Rugby entered into the Wednesday competition. The Junior Girls finished 1st in their grade and the Year 9 Girls finished 3rd equal.  This was an amazing achievement for all the girls.

The Senior Boys Indoor Football team also enjoyed their season and all the boys played well.  Students also enjoyed taking part in Archery and Small-bore shooting this term.

Polo Tournament

At the end of November, Year 9 student, Finlay Blackwell, played in the South Island SUPA (Schools and Universities Polo Association) Polo tournament. The weather was perfect and there were a record number of teams playing in four grade levels - A, B, C and D. Finlay was part of a Christchurch combined school team, which means that the team members come from different schools. Finlay's team, playing in the 'B' grade, won their grade, beating Medbury, Rangi Ruru and Rangiora High School. Their next tournament is in February 2021.

New polo players are very welcome. You don't need to have any previous riding experience. Also, you don't need your own horse and you don't need any equipment as this can all be provided for you. Anyone who is interested can contact Roddy Wood and his team at the Waireka Polo School in Sefton (phone 03 312 - 9612 or email roddywood1@xtra.co.nz) or Mark Donald at Blue Springs Polo and Equestrian Centre in Tuahiwi (phone 03 310 7796 or email info@polo-nz.co.nz).
