Canterbury Secondary Schools' Netball Tournament

Jayne Dewe —

2019 saw the SISS Netball Tournament played at the Saxton Courts and Stadium in Nelson.

The irony of this year's event was that our A team played indoors for the first two days when the weather was amazing and then all teams played outside for the latter two days in the very trying conditions. Pouring with rain!!!!

The team was once again in a very difficult pool with St Margaret's, St Andrew's and Taieri College. This being a rebuilding year, it was always going to be extremely difficult. And it was no surprise that the team played eight games and won only one. This places the team back into B grade for 2020, albeit seeded number 1.

Although this was initially disappointing, the fact remains that rebuilding skills, tactics, court awareness, and fitness levels are better done in the B grade. And as we farewell Ashley Adams our captain after four years in the A team and acknowledge her contribution to an amazing successful era, the baton is now passed on to some raw, exciting, keen to learn netballers that will work hard in 2020 and be striving for A grade status once again.

Many thanks to all that made this event so successful in our pursuit of improvement. Special mention to Steph Box, our parent helper, Marg Johnston, umpire and Maree Reynolds, team manager.

Bring on 2020!!!!
