9C and 9T camp

Ashleigh Fowler —

This year 9C and 9T were the second group to embark on Year 9 camp. Just missing the snow, there was still a bitter chill in the air. The students were all buzzing with excitement and anticipation for the next three days.

When we arrived at the lodge we unpacked, had a quick introduction and then lunch. After lunch the students got split off into the groups they would be in for the next few days and headed off for the first lot of activities.

The activities that the students participated in over the three-day camp ranged from tramping, high ropes, low ropes, river crossing on a zipline, and crossing a swamp with only three planks. The activities were a great opportunity for everyone to push themselves to the limit in both a physical and mental capacity. It was great to see so many students getting involved and completing the activities to the best of their ability.

At night time we did two different activities, solo and nightline. Solo was where students would get dropped off and had to spend roughly half an hour on their own without a torch. This was a great opportunity for the students to sit down and reflect. These were run by the Year 13 leaders who really stepped up and acted as role models for the Year 9s and developed their leadership qualities.

Some of the highlights for the students were: chilling on the beanbags, high poles, orienteering, bush bashing, exploring the forest, building huts, hiking, the bus ride there, making shelters, drinking hot raro and Mr Creed reading his book to the boys' bunk room.

Overall, we had a great time at the Boyle River Lodge for the three days and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the students challenge themselves over the three days.
