Sporting Success

Hayley Newton —

Well done to the following students who have achieved success in their chosen sports.

Softball

Congratulations to McKenzie Bailey-McDowell, Y11, who has been named in the NZ U18 Junior White Sox Squad.

Cross Country

Congratulations to Pai Wynyard, Y11, who was selected to represent Canterbury in the U18 Team at the NZ Athletics Cross Country held in Dunedin. Pai placed 9th in the Individual and 2nd in the Canterbury Team.

Skiing

Congratulations to Molly McKinney, Y9, who placed 9th out of 66 girls in the Canterbury Secondary Schools' Ski Race held at Mt Hutt. This was a great result, especially considering her high start number, as the course gets more rutted as the racing progresses. All year groups are represented so this was amazing for a year 9 student.

Cycling

Congratulations to Wolf Pene, Y11, who placed 2nd in the U16 Boys at the South Island Road Champs.

Basketball

  • Congratulations to Alex Taylor, Y12, for being named in the College Park All-Star lineup.
  • Congratulations also to our students that represented North Canterbury at the U17 Nationals in Dunedin, Alex Taylor & Delta Shaw, and the U15 Nationals in Auckland, Aliyah Newton, Jake Holmes, Rama Naidu, Toa Harimata-Parata & coach Pete McAllister.
  • We also had a number of students take part in the Mainland tournaments.

Football

Congratulations to Rico Pradhan & Noah Woolhouse, both Y10, who took part in the Pacific Festival of Football during the July school holidays in Auckland.

Rugby

Congratulations to Kain Mannix & Max McCullough, both Y11, who were both named in the North Canterbury U16 Rep team that played Marlborough in Kaikoura over the weekend.

Cheerleading

Well done to Brooke Hurley, Y13, & Amelia Payne, Y10, who are part of the Empire Cheer team that competed strongly at the Nationals Team & Solo events that were held in Auckland.

Netball

  • Congratulations to Beth Dunbar, Y12, & Mackenzie Cassidy, Y13, who represented North Canterbury at the U18 Nationals in Rotorua during the July school holidays.
  • Also congratulations to Caitlin Bosson, Y11, who made the U16 Rep teams that competed in the Mainland Tournament in Ashburton.
  • Well done to Daragh Hamilton-Davis, Y12, for being named in the U23 Mixed Netball Team & U19 South Island Indoor Netball team.
  • Congratulations to Hannah Toli, Eva Parry, Cleo Johnson, Lily Perrins, Ruby Andrews & Brooke Keates, who were named in the North Canterbury Representative Year 9 team to play a Field Days Tournament.

Rugby League

Well done to Ben Ritchie & Dayton Tonihi-Pitama for your representative honours.

A massive well done to all these students and it's great to be able to share your successes. Please let us know in the Sports Office of any achievements and we would love to be able to share these with our school community.
