Digi Tech trip to Antarctic Centre

Hamish Johnston —

Recently, the Levels 2 & 3 Digital Technologies class had the opportunity to visit the International Antarctic Centre, where they got to learn about the latest digital technologies being used in the world of research and exploration.

The visit to the Antarctic Centre was a unique opportunity for the students to see how technology is being used in a remote and challenging environment. They got to see first-hand how researchers and explorers use technology to overcome the harsh conditions of the Antarctic, and how they gather and analyze data. One of the highlights of the visit was experiencing the Hägglunds, an amazing all-terrain amphibious Antarctic vehicle that’s been built to conquer the rough terrain on the ice.

The students also had the chance to experience the extreme conditions of the Antarctic in the Centre's simulated environments. They were able to experience a virtual Antarctic storm and learn about the technology used to keep researchers safe during these extreme weather conditions.

Overall, the visit to Christchurch's International Antarctic Centre was an unforgettable experience for the senior secondary school digital technologies class. It provided a unique opportunity for them to see how technology is being used in a remote and challenging environment, and to gain insight into the latest digital technologies being used in research and exploration. This experience will undoubtedly inspire these students to continue their studies in digital technologies and pursue careers in this field.
