Y11 & 12 Drama

Celia Breen —

The combined Year 11 & 12 Drama class has just completed their class production of 'Daughters of Heaven' by Michelanne Forster.

They have been working on the play all term, from script reading, rehearsals, costume selection, line learning, and blocking. This is our largest assessment for the year so they were very pleased it went so smoothly.

You may or may not recognise the name of the play... but if your families were in Christchurch (or indeed New Zealand) in the 1950s, they would definitely recognise the names Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme. We have also been thrilled and slightly horrified to learn about the two girls' lives since leaving prison. This was a super production and we would love to see you at the next one!

On June 22, 1954 in a secluded part of Victoria Park in Christchurch, Juliet Hulme, and Pauline Parker battered Pauline's mother to death. The infamous murder, also depicted in the Peter Jackson movie Heavenly Creatures, arose from the passionate friendship of the two girls.

The cast really enjoyed performing to a great crowd of whānau and friends. A definite firm favourite amongst the cast was getting to get messy with fake blood for the murder scene.
