North Canterbury Careers Expo

Andrea Williamson —

On Wednesday 24th May the North Canterbury Careers Expo was held at Rangiora High School.

It was well attended by many students/parents and caregivers from the whole North Canterbury region, including our school. There were many training providers and businesses on hand to discuss a wide range of study and employment opportunities. We had a small group of students volunteer to be navigators and welcome visitors and generally help where needed throughout the expo.

We had a number of students who volunteered to be navigators on the day,  Hunter Campbell, Lili Batterbury, Zach Ferrier, Blake Brown, Abi Hannah, Junilla Abina, Alex Walker-Beecham.

Regarding their duties, Lily said: "Our task was to help the exhibitors find out what area they would be in. We then walked around, asked if the employees were ok, and made sure people went all the way down to the end of the expo".

Here is what two of the students said of their experience:

"It was really cool to be a part of! I really enjoyed walking around, and I got a free bouncy ball from Mitre 10!" - Hunter Campbell

"It was so good to be able to help the community and it was so cool to see so many people coming and using the opportunity to figure out what they wanted to do with their future". - Lili Batterbury
