PTA News

Claire Spear, PTA Co-Chair —

The PTA is all about fostering the link between the school and its community. It is an enthusiastic and caring space where parents and whanau can engage with the school in a meaningful way.

What the PTA is doing in 2017

Our Year 9 wine and cheese evening for parents and caregivers was held on 16th February 2017. Thank you to the parents, staff, and students that turned out to this event. It was great to welcome so many new faces to our school community. It also provided an opportunity for families to hear about the School’s value systems, and see plans for the new buildings.

7th March saw our first meeting for 2017. Elizabeth McMeeken updated us on the school roll, which has started well with about 850 students, including 31 YPC and approximately 20 International students. New staff are bringing with them a change of vibe to the school, which is very positive. The Leaders of Learning are investigating the timetable structure and curriculum delivery, to see if changes can be made when the rebuild is complete.

4th April was our AGM and PTA meeting. The AGM flowed easily, with the financial report, followed by the Chairperson's report. Wendy thanked members of the PTA, past and present, for their commitment and hard work and summarised the past twelve months' achievements supported by the PTA. Confirmation of the election of officers: Chairperson's shared role - Wendy Howe and Claire Spear, Treasurer – Michelle Tavendale, Secretary – Lesley Rau, School Representative –Elizabeth McMeeken, Board Representative – Emma McCracken.  An updated list of committee members was also confirmed. We continued with the PTA meeting with an informative Pastoral Services presentation, kindly provided by Assistant Principal, Geraldine Enersen. Many questions were asked regarding this excellent service provided by the school, which is continually utilised by many of the students.

There is lots of activity at school with Oliver, Stage Challenge and the Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival starting in near future, as well as good participation in Wednesday sports. Dragon Boat racing has been very successful and there are good turnouts in sports such as clay pigeon shooting and canoe polo.
