Year 10 Geography field trip

John Stringer —

On 28 April, Year 10 Geography students went on a field trip to Banks Peninsula and Lyttelton with Mr Henson, Mr Creed, Mr Stringer, and student teacher Mr Ahmad.

Students explored rock formations and ecosystems, erosion, volcanic deposits, and wetlands.  Mr Henson explained the formation of the Banks Peninsula tops.  We found examples of volcanic 'bombs' (large lava conglomerates full of various rocks and stones that have flowed or rolled down from a volcanic fissure above and then solidified).  These became surrounded later by lighter sediments, rocks and grass.
