From the Board table

Phil Kerrigan —

Well, term 2 has certainly been an unusual one!

As with many aspects of our lives over the last three months, things changed rapidly, with the School going into enforced lockdown ahead of the country moving to Level 4 and having to develop alternative ways of working at very short notice. On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank and acknowledge the hard work and commitment of the whole school team over this time. The Principal and Senior Leadership Team developed and implemented the plans quickly, and amended them as required to ensure that the majority of our students were able to continue with their education via home learning. We acknowledge that in some cases there were issues, however, I want to stress that the school was operating under direct instructions from the Ministry of Education, and there are certainly some lessons that should be learnt at the Ministry level, that we have passed along.

The teaching and support team all worked extremely hard to adapt to the new situation we found ourselves in, developing their teaching plans, adapting and supporting the students throughout lockdown. The entire school team came together to continue to provide our students with the very best opportunities available, and I am sure that, as a school community, we are all very appreciative of the efforts that the team have gone to.

As the country, and indeed the whole world, continues to address the Covid-19 pandemic, the Board is confident that the School is very well placed to face any challenge that comes our way, with clear plans and a great team in place who are adaptive and totally focused on doing what is required to ensure that Kaiapoi High School continues to provide outstanding learning opportunities to our students.

Regards
