Aukaha Tau Tekau at University of Canterbury

Edward Kwon —

On Thursday 17th November a group of 24 Māori tau tekau ākonga went to the University of Canterbury for the Aukaha event.

This event was specifically for Māori ākonga in tau tekau across Christchurch to come down and experience a day at the University of Canterbury. The students were all divided into rōpū with ākonga from other kura and went along to several different workshops based on the different subjects on offer at university. They got to have an experience of law, science, the arts, engineering, sports, and many other things that are on offer at the university. Free kai was provided by Fush and I think this might have been our ākonga’s highlight of the day! As always, Kaiapoi High was represented with pride and mana by our rangatahi.

The photos show Talula Green and Yozannah Topia-Peneha at one of the workshops and Kupa Wakelin connecting with other rangatahi. Photo credit: The University of Canterbury.
