From the Hospitality Department

Andrea Preston —

The Hospitality Department has started getting into full swing this month.

Year 10 Food Technology

Students each chopped chicken breasts finely with chef knives and added a healthy portion of fresh broccoli heads and stalks, and spring onions to the patty mix. Most students were pleasantly surprised with the delicious texture and flavour of the oven-baked chicken patties.

Level 1 Hospitality

February & March have brought literally bucketloads of fresh organic fruit, donated to the School's Hospitality Department. Level 1 Hospitality students learned about the quality points of fresh fruit and then used processing techniques to bottle foraged peaches for smoothies.

Level 2 Hospitality

Preparations took place for our first hospitality café on 9th March. Level 2 students started with some knife sharpening skills and then prepared sausage rolls, taking care to portion and present their food with care. Students are encouraged to take trial different plating ideas and keep photo records of their finished products.

Level 3 Hospitality student, Jaz Mead, demonstrates one of Kaiapoi High School's core values of Community. Jaz volunteered to help after school to prepare and plate up food for the PTA's very successful Y9 parent/caregiver wine & cheese evening last month. Jaz is also a regular volunteer at the School's canteen.
