9H and 9Q Camp

Nick McGillivray —

This year 9H and 9Q were the first group to embark on Year 9 camp on 20th August.

The bus picked us up at 9am and we promptly hit the road after packing all of the gear. A quick stop in Culverden and on we went to the Boyle River Lodge.

When we arrived at the lodge we unpacked, a quick introduction and then stopped for lunch. After lunch the students got split off into the groups they would be in for the next few days and headed off for the first lot of activities.

The activities that the students participated in over the three day camp ranged from tramping, high ropes, low ropes, river crossing on a zipline, and crossing a swamp with only three planks. The activities were a great opportunity for everyone to push themselves to the limit in both a physical and mental capacity. It was great to see so many students getting involved and completing the activities to the best of their ability.

At night time we did two different activities, solo and nightline. Solo was where students would get dropped off and had to spend roughly half an hour on their own without a torch. This was a great opportunity for the students to sit down and reflect. The other activity, nightline, was one in which they were blindfolded and through the dark of the night had to follow a rope through a patch of forest from beginning to end. This was a great opportunity for students to allow other senses than sight to help guide them through.

Well done to all of the students for doing such an awesome job representing Kaiapoi High School while at the Boyle River Lodge and giving the activities a go, even though we had rain the entire time we were there!

Overall we had a great time at the Boyle River Lodge for the three days and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the students challenge themselves. Thanks to all of the hard work that went on behind the scenes to make this camp so successful.
