Music trip

Ethan Mead —

This term saw 11 senior music students go on a trip down to Wānaka for the Youth and Adults in the Music Industry SouNZ Summit in Wānaka.

This summit is designed to provide connections, knowledge, and opportunity to musicians of any level.  Tutors at this event included Anika Moa, Anthonie Tonnon, Finn Andrews (The Veils), Elizabeth Stokes and Jonathan Pearce (The Beths), Ned Ngatae, and many more influential music industry professionals, from both on stage and behind the scenes.

The students got to engage for two days, with workshops that covered almost every aspect of the music industry including songwriting, audio engineering (both live and recorded), stagecraft, jobs in music, music management (touring, promotion, etc.), music video production, and many more. These proved phenomenally useful to our students and served to further inspire their passions for music.

Further, this event allowed our students to connect with people from all over the motu who are passionate and talented. Our students have made connections with successful musicians and industry people, and passionate young ones as well.

This trip was a massive success and provided our students with a rich, authentic experience, full of new knowledge, great connections, and ultimately a really fun time.
