Trip to Antarctica Centre

John Stringer —

On 17 October two Year 9 Social Studies classes went on a trip to the Christchurch International Antarctic Centre with Mr Stringer, Mr Smith, and Mr Hensen.

9N & 9X students studied Antarctic geography, mapping, history, fauna, environment and conservation, international relations, and the Erebus disaster. The focus was on the Christchurch connection, 'Our Place' within a wider Poles, South Pacific, and global social study.

Students really enjoyed learning about the ice continent and getting up close and personal with real Siberian huskies, NZ little blue penguins, and experiencing a -19degC blizzard.
