Gifted & Talented Education at KHS

Callum Bell —

I feel a formal update on GATE here at KHS is in order!

Kia ora Kaiapoi High School community; my name is Callum Bell and I am the recently appointed coordinator of Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) at Kaiapoi High School. After attending this great school myself some years ago, I went on to study Biology and Psychology at the University of Canterbury before training as a secondary school teacher and taking up my first teaching position at Christ’s College. There I taught senior and scholarship Biology, lived onsite as boarding house staff, and established the first Psychology courses in the School’s 170-year history. Now I’m excited to have returned to Kaiapoi High School to develop Psychology as a subject and build on the GATE programme.

My vision for GATE at Kaiapoi High School is an active, visible, and exciting force for growth and good. There are so many things I’m looking forward to. From guest speakers to external educational opportunities, service activities to nationwide competitions, the sky is the limit. I can’t wait to share these things with our students and the wider community as the year unfolds. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding gifted and talented education at Kaiapoi High School, I’d invite you to contact me directly. Here’s to a new year brimming with new opportunities!
