Kristie Dutton —

It has been a very busy start to 2020 for our International Department!

We have welcomed a number of amazing new students to Kaiapoi High School this term from Japan, Otone Kusano, Ryo Yuasa, Hinata Mune, Ririn Watanabe, Wakana Kishihara, Lio Ohta, Tomoka Inayoshi, Sachi Imura, Toko Yamada, Kakeru Yoshida, Towa Tsuruoki, Hiroaki Mizutani and Yuina Adachi.

Their experiences have been educational and varied. Settling into a new country, culture, family and school can pose challenges to students but, with communication and understanding, these students have well and truly settled in and have a good understanding of the Kiwi way of life. Their improvement in English, personal achievements and contribution to our staff and students has been wonderful to see. We are very fortunate to have them here with us.

This term we took a trip to the Antarctic Centre and our students had a ball. We watched a 4D movie, experienced an Antarctic storm and meet some beautiful huskies.

International students studying at Kaiapoi High School, long term or short, are enjoying the curriculum we offer. Outdoor Education and Hospitality are key attractions and greatly enjoyed by our students. There is also interest in subject classes such as Drama, Mathematics and Dance.

Jill and I want to say a big thank you to our homestay families that have supported our international students so far this year. We really appreciate all the time and effort you put into making our International students feel safe and happy.
