SPACPAC Supreme Awards

Edward Kwon —

On 6th March, SPACPAC, the Pasifika collective organisation, held its annual supreme awards.

This awards evening is held every year to celebrate the success of Canterbury’s Pasifika students who have been outstanding in their leadership and in their academic pursuits. This year, Salome Drulidruli (Fiji), Karla Seuamuli (Samoa), Jade Wilson (Samoa) and Nikora Wall (Solomon Islands) were celebrated as being outstanding Pasifika leaders at Kaiapoi High School. Holding leadership positions within the PolyFest group, student council, sports captains, and Jade is one of our head students for 2023. Our Pasifika students continue to shine and take leadership responsibilities within our school community, as well as the wider Kaiapoi community.

As well as this, Mica Wilson (Samoa) and Jade Wilson (Samoa) were celebrated for their outstanding academic achievements in 2022. This is not an easy feat, especially for students who engage in many different activities in and out of school. Both Jade and Mica gained excellence endorsements for NCEA in 2022. This signifies the hard work and dedication both students and their aiga put into their academic studies during a very fragmented year, dealing with an increase in illnesses and physical and mental fatigue. The future is very bright for our Pasifika students.

Mā te aroha ka tūtuki,

Edward Kwon (Dean of Māori and Pasifika academic achievements and pathways)
