Some important information from Kaiapoi High School.

An additional parent/teacher interview opportunity

Would you like to have a quick virtual catch-up to check that everything is on track for your child to achieve NCEA results that reflect their very best ability? This year we are offering an additional opportunity for our parents and caregivers of our senior students (Yr 11,12,13) to participate in 5-minute online interviews with all, or some, of your child’s teachers. It will occur on the afternoon of 13th September. To be able to participate in this you will need a Google account. All students have a school Google account and they will be able to access the online meeting if guardians do choose to have an interview with their child’s teachers. If you don’t have a Google account and you want to participate in this interview (and you don’t want to view the meeting through your child’s Google account), then please follow the instructions in this link to create your own Google Account:

This is the first time we have offered virtual/online meetings, so there may be some glitches along the way. This is not seen as a replacement for our face-to-face meetings - it is just an extra one. It means that you do not need to be onsite to meet staff. You can be anywhere there is wi-fi access and where you have a cellphone or laptop that has a camera and audio function.

Tutor teachers of your child will also be available to meet online. They have access to a fuller picture of how your child is tracking overall towards the end of the year. You are welcome to make appointments with them too.

You will receive more information about how to book with teachers in just over a week.

COVID-19 update

If your child does show covid-like symptoms we would like them to be tested for Covid. If they test positive for Covid, we are strongly recommending that they stay at home for five days (day zero begins when they were first symptomatic or tested positive - whichever comes first). Any unwell student should not be at school and we ask Covid-positive students to stay at home to complete their five days of isolation. This supports not only the students in improving their health but also protects our community in staying healthy. As always, for any students who are unwell and at school, we will isolate these students and ask for their caregivers to pick them up.

For families with students who currently don’t have broadband at home

Ciena Jump provides subsidised home broadband to eligible secondary school students and their families.

  • This fund is for students who don't have a broadband connection at home because cost is a barrier. It is intended to support them to study and learn online.

  • Families on the Ciena Jump for Students fund get a free wireless broadband modem with 210GB of data each month until the end of the 2023 school year.

You can find more information on Ciena Jump here.

If you are interested in applying for the Ciena Jump subsidised broadband, our school office has application forms that you complete and take to any of the Waimakariri Libraries. They will assist students and their families to sign up to Ciena Jump. Please do not hesitate to contact Rebecca Morland rebecca.morland@wmk.govt.nz for any further information about accessing Ciena Jump via Waimakariri Libraries.
