Rimu House

Celia Breen —

R-I-M-U - Rimu House is coming for you!

This chant, created by Year 9 Ashton McKenzie, has seen Rimu start 2017 with great success. At the first flying of the flags, Rimu were on top (albeit sharing the highest point on the flagpole).

The year started with a red riot at the House Challenge Fun Day, where 12 Rimu Tutor Groups hopped, spelled and ran their way to (tied) victory. As a new Dean this year, I was so excited to see our students challenging themselves and achieving not only personal excellence, but also showing great sportsmanship and camaraderie.

Rimu is in great hands this year, with an excellent team of House Captains. After a tough interview process, I chose five candidates who have since wowed me with their innovative thinking. The seniors, Alex Burling, Kayla Koekemoer, Pirika Sinclair-Philips and Deston Oneroa, are ably led by Head House Captain, Hayley Stavreff. Our talented Junior House Captains are: Luke Hopkinson, Caleb Massey, Ella Poppelwell, Angus Boyd and Sonal Rama. Our last two house assemblies have been organised and run by these students, increasing student buy-in and giving them excellent leadership opportunities.

Next term, we continue with our House Challenges, which have so far included water races, all-sport and paper plane throwing contests. We hope to see more students involved, both participating in and supporting Rimu as we charge our way into victory!
