On Saturday 25th March Kaiapoi High School competed in their first Waka Ama race in about 20 years.

The combined crew of Te Ruapounamu Robson, Nikora Wall, Kingston Fanselow, Riley Pehi and Waimarie Watene-Mercep competed in the Whakaraupō Chase.  The Chase is a 10km race from Lyttelton to Rapaki, around Quail Island and back into Lyttelton.  

The students had been training with Hohepa Bowen, an ex-student of KHS, on Wednesdays after school at Kerrs Reach.  

This combined crew placed 1st in the Chase, which was an amazing result.  The students did incredibly well and are keen to compete in the Icebreaker Challenge in Dunedin in June.
