Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Competition
In term one Kaiapoi High entered a team in the regional heats for the National Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Competition. The team consisted of five students, Courtney Day, Artemis Hingston, Sam Scott, Hamish Hodges and Alice Hodges.
To everyone's surprise, the team won the student-directed five minute scene segment from Macbeth and was awarded the chance to go the Nationals. This term, over Queen's Birthday weekend, the team went up to Wellington and spent five magical days in the capital learning and performing Shakespeare. The trip was an absolutely amazing experience and was full of great performances and when the team performed their piece, it was the best they had ever done. The team unfortunately didn’t win (or should I say ‘Winn’!) any awards, but the whole weekend was a reward enough.
The whole team would like to thank Celia Breen for helping organise the trip and going up with them to Wellington, Kate Hamilton for sorting and providing costumes, the students and staff for supporting the team with fundraising and the wider Kaiapoi community for supporting with the fundraising. Without the fundraising from you guys, the whole weekend wouldn’t be possible.
The team hopes to do even better next year and will be looking for new members to get involved. With the amazing actors and actresses at this school, they won't be disappointed!
