Sporting Success

Hayley Newton —

Congratulations to the students that have been excelling in their sport outside of school.

Korfball: Cody Siegenthaler has been named in the U21 Squad to represent New Zealand in Shah Alam, Malaysia in August.

Cycling: Wolf Pene took part in the Track Cycling Nationals in Invercargill. He placed 2nd 200m Fly, 2nd Match Sprints, 3rd Team Pursuit, 3rd Eliminations. He then took part in the Oceania Championships in Brisbane. The NZ Team placed 3rd in Team Sprints.

Boxing: Taylah Tohill recently won gold at the South Island Novice Boxing Champs. Taylah has now been selected to travel with a team to Wellington to compete in the Nationals.

Pool: Korbin Shakespeare-Symonds & Ritai Solomon competed in the Molly's Open Pool Competition held at the Cashmere Club, with Korbin winning his final.

Basketball:

  • Delta Shaw led the Scholarships Team that competed in the Junior ShowCase Hoopnations Tournament in Whanganui, finishing runners-up in the U17 Girls Division.
  • Aliyah Newton had her selection camp for Basketball NZ Girls U17 Squad in Auckland over the holidays.
  • Hannah Toli, Ellie Shaw, Sam Woolhouse, Lachlan Jones, Tim Gilmore, Aliyah Newton, Terongomaianiwaniwa Williams, Anika Shaw & Delta Shaw were part of their age-grade North Canterbury teams that competed in the qualifying tournament over Easter Weekend. This has now qualified their teams for age-grade Nationals, which will be held in Auckland & Wellington in the July school holidays.
