Tournament Week - Junior Boys' Basketball

Nick McGillivray —

On Saturday 2nd September the Year 10 Basketball Team took off to Ashburton for the South Island Secondary Schools' Tournament.

This tournament was hosted at both the EA Networks Centre and Basketball Mid Canterbury Stadium.

We had a tough pool to be competing in, with teams from Nelson College, Riccarton High School, Rangiora High School, Kings High School and Papanui High School. These were all very tough teams to go up against in pool play, with the boys losing all of these games. All of the boys played well though and gave it their all on the court, which was awesome to see.

When we came out of the pool play we had some very close match ups with some great teams, playing against, Christ's College, Kavanagh College and Taieri College. The boys won a nail biting game against Kavanagh College by one point. This was an amazing game to watch, the boys holding composure through until the very end. The boys went on to play off for 21st and 22nd place against Taieri College which, after a hard fought game, we lost, coming in at 22nd place overall for the tournament. An awesome effort from the boys!

A big thank you to Troy Lipsham for coaching the boys this year in both the local competition on Friday nights and taking the time to coach them on this tournament. Thank you to Heather Anderson for managing the boys over both the Friday night competition and also over tournament and a big thank you to Heather and Anna Lipsham for making sure the boys were well fed over the four days.
