Rugby Sevens Tournament

Josh Hutchings —

On Thursday 3rd September the Kaiapoi Boys' Rugby Sevens team travelled to Burnside Park to play in a round robin tournament.

We also had three students playing for the Rangiora High School girls’ team.

The Cashmere High School team were reportedly the team to beat in the boys' grade going into the tournament, and we had them first up in the draw. We fought hard and, after trailing after the first half, scored three great tries to win the match 22-10.

We won the remaining four round robin games against Riccarton HS, Greymouth HS, Westland HS and Ellesmere College.

We faced Cashmere again in the final, they having won all of their remaining matches also. Only 7 points separated the teams in the end, with KHS going down 14-21, due to a last minute Cashmere try under the posts.

A great effort by all players involved:

Boys

Dante Love, Paris Kara, Jessie Tappin, Jacob Hurring, Liam Hughes, Mitchell Currey, Wiremu Herewini, Dallas Riwaka, Jason Sherlock, Connor Smith, Liam Wilkie and Shak Bassi.

Girls

Alice Matthews, Helen Matthews and Kaylee McCracken.
