Senior Boys' Basketball Tournament

Allen Dvorak, Coach —

The Senior Boys' Basketball season began in February. We had a total of 28 boys try out to make a 12 man roster.

The first training session began in March and was held every Thursday evening for the duration of the 2018 season.  The team played a total of 17 games, which includes the winter tournament held in Ashburton.

Our first game in the Thompson Trophy took place in Ellesmere, where we lost to Ellesmere but shot only 19% from the field.  We had a 5 win, 4 loss in the Thompson Trophy for the season, but we also beat two teams away from the Thompson Trophy, Buller High School and Kaiakoura High School.

Our final six games were played in Ashburton in the Schick Southern Cup (non-qualifier) Tournament on September 6-8.  We played in Pool B, defeating Glen Mc Glashan, Gore, Riccarton, and Hornby.  Ashburton finished first in Pool A, while Cashmere B finished 2nd.  We were cross-bracketed and played Cashmere in the semifinals, only to lose to them by 4 points.

Our team played well throughout the season and we peaked at the right time to enter the semifinals in the tournament with 4-0 record. The team consists of Year 11 and 12 students and, if all players return, they will be very competitive for the 2019 season.
