Dance Success

Kate Hamilton —

Congratulations to Year 10 student, Rhearn Le Huray, who is achieving huge success in her dancing.

In Australia recently, Rhearn became the “National Champion for Broadway Dancing”, receiving 1st place.  She also got 3rd in Contemporary and Double Platinums for all her dances. She had the opportunity to dance in the Australian Junior Dream Dance Company (a show) and there were only two New Zealanders asked to do this. She also made the Top 20 out of all the dancers her age.

While she was in Australia, she took a very quick flight back to New Zealand, arriving in at midnight, got up the next morning, sat her Royal Academy or Dance (RAD) Major Advanced Foundation Ballet exam at her dance school in Christchurch, then flew back to Australia to dance that night! She received the highest points of the Dance School, with a Distinction, for that exam.

More recently, Rhearn went to Wellington with five other dancers from her dance school. There was 38 ballerinas hand-selected from around New Zealand, based on their exam results from the New Zealand Association of Modern Dance.  They had to learn a whole dance in 1 ½ hours and then perform this on stage that night (no videoing allowed),  from memory.  Rhearn won her ballet section, receiving two cups, a sash and $1200!
