Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival

Kate Hamilton —

"A pretty peat! It is best put finger in the eye, an she knew why". (Taming Of the Shrew. Act 1, Scene 1)

On Saturday 1st April Kaiapoi High School students competed in the 2017 Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival, held at Papanui High School. Our team was led by Ellie-Mae Savage, who directed our scene from Taming Of The Shrew and played the waspish and difficult Katherina. Our other performers were Finlay Mably (Lucentio), Courtney Day (Tranio), Maia Thompson (Hortensio), Isabella Hingston (Baptista), Sam Scott (Bianca) and Alice and Hamish Hodges (Gremio 1 & 2).

There were 17 performances from 10 schools around Canterbury, featuring scenes from King Lear, A Midsummer Night's Dream, A Winter's Tale and more, showcasing the marvellous talents of Canterbury's budding actors. Our team shared a 'green room' with Rangiora New Life and warmed up with a rousing game of 'top hat piggy-in-the-middle'. Our team played our scene with confidence, gusto and great comic timing! We were so pleased with our performance and proud to once again take the opportunity to attend the Festival and connect with the Shakespeare community of Canterbury. Many thanks to Mrs Breen for her assistance and advice.
