New KHS Gymnasium - Hiwa i te rangi

Sarah Sweet —

It was a pleasure to have our new gymnasium announced officially opened by Mayor David Ayers and blessed by Papa Pone on Friday 13th September.

The opening of the new gymnasium was a culmination of vision, detailed planning and lots of hard work. We would like to acknowledge those involved, Brosnan Construction, the Ministry of Education and the  Waimakariri District Council for their efforts in making such a wonderful state of the art facility available for both the School and the community to use, and to the Kapa haka group for their performance at the opening and to the students and staff who participated in the volleyball game.

This complex adds to the already superb resources that we have at Kaiapoi High School. The new gymnasium provides a venue for a wide range of sports and activities, including netball, basketball, dance, gymnastics, badminton, volleyball, weight training and indoor soccer. It will enable inter-school competitions to be hosted here, and gives the School’s hardworking physical education and sports staff the facilities they need to bring out the very best in our students. The gym will be available to KHS school during school hours and open for bookings to community groups and sports teams outside of school hours in the future.
