Voices Festival

James Kerr-Shaw & Rhian Campbell —

On Tuesday 17th September the KHS Choir performed at the Voices Festival.

The Voices Festival is a participatory festival specialising in pop music, and is held at Papa Hou, YMCA, Hereford Street. We were awarded the Gospel Heroes award, for our heartfelt performance of My City of Ruins by Bruce Springsteen, which we sang in remembrance of the Christchurch Mosque shootings. Our second song was One Love, by Bob Marley, which we performed in our three national languages; Māori, English, and New Zealand Sign Language. Our performance went superbly, and we were also awarded best use of Te Reo Māori (shout out to Paige Columbus for the translation and pronunciation lessons, and Mrs Webb for the NZSL lessons).

The students who took part were Erika Barclay, Rhian Campbell, Paige Columbus, Kyla Forbes-Kean, Artemis Hingston, Alice Hodges, James Kerr-Shaw, Ruby Kitto, Ty Oldroyd, Stacey Sanders, Chloe Schroder, Lachie Smith-Taumata, Brigitte Stace and Leyton Wright.
