International News

Deanne Gath —

International students at Kaiapoi High School have participated in a three week non-NCEA activity programme while our senior students have been involved in NCEA external exams.

Some of the activities include: Rock Climbing, Archery, the Coastal Pacific train journey to Kaikoura, Antigua Boatshed and Bikes, Adrenalin Forest, Quail Island, Surfing, Orana Park and the Gondola. It is a wonderful way for our international students to complete their study term with us before returning to their home countries.

Farewells

Sadly, we have been saying a fond goodbye to seventeen of our International students over the last few weeks. Yukihiro Akutsu, Mirai Hinoue, Nanami Nakayama, Momo Miyakawa, Rina Ishiki, Natsuki Watanabe, Yuzuki Tsunogae, Tomofumi Onuma, Taiga Tanizaki , Kyo Nishimura and Anna Kameda are all returning to Japan, Luna Schreiner is going back to university studies in Germany, Paula Ortega and Catalina Tapia return to Chile and Beam Viroonhasakul is going home to Thailand. Tomoya Tarui and Friederike Frahm are continuing their studies at other schools. These students have been at Kaiapoi High School for between two terms and four years. They have been valued members of our school community and we wish them well as they continue with further education or embark on new challenges back in their home countries.

Homestay Families Wanted

Would you like to become a Homestay Parent and give an international student a taste of Kiwi culture?

The school warmly welcomes overseas students in Year 9 to Year 13 and values the contact with other cultures. Our school has long-term relationships with some overseas schools.

In 2016 we have students coming from all over the world to experience life at Kaiapoi High School and life in a New Zealand home.  If you would like to be considered for hosting, either long- term or short-term, then we would love to hear from you.

In particular, we require short-term families in 2016 for five different groups from Thailand and Japan.  We also require host families who have horses.

For an application pack, please email Fiona Millar on f.millar@kaiapoi.school.nz or phone 027 536 0022.
