Level 2 History field trip

John Stringer —

On 3 May, the Level 2 History classes went on a field trip to Banks Peninsula and Quail Island with Mr Collier and Mr Stringer.

The students explored history, the environment, Maori context locally, and geography.  Mr Collier explained some of the aspects of 'Our Place', including the leper colony on Quail Island and aspects of local iwi.

Students had a competition on the lunchtime beach to create a historical-themed sandcastle. We ended up with a nuclear silo, a biblical narrative set, a Cheops Pyramid with Sphinx, Martin Luther King Jr, a moon landing, Vesuvius and Pompeii, and a Warsaw ghetto (with crabs!).
