On Thursday 28th October, the Junior GATE (Gifted & Talented) Club came together to work on their business concepts and advertising for a product that will be sold for charity.
The morning started with a ZOOM Meeting with a guest speaker, Charlie Hay, who works as a freelance marketer in Christchurch. Charlie spoke to the students about what skills are involved in marketing, what work is like as a marketer, and what tertiary pathways are required for marketing with an agency or as a freelancer. The students then spent time brainstorming and finalising details for their projects, such as budgets, timelines, and business slogans. Afterwards, project and design teacher, Ms Graham, took students through the fundamentals of advertising and digital creation, before students spent time creating their business logos and advertisements on Canva. The GATE Club groups are well on their way to developing a successful business and selling products for profit.
