It has been another busy term of sport at Kaiapoi High School.

A wide range of sports got the go-ahead in these difficult times. It was great to see that no opportunities had been taken away from our students.

It was exciting to be able to put the skills of our talented teachers, Haidee Tiffen and Natalie Cox, to good use in a Canterbury Country Y9 Cricket tournament, which took place at Rolleston, Ohoka, and Rangiora over three days. Well done to this team, which was made up of keen cricketers and new players, who all enjoyed the experience.

Our Junior Girls Volleyball team also took part in a three-day tournament, which saw them being moved up into the A grade. This was a positive experience for them all and improved their game. This term we had a great interest in Korfball, which is a new mixed sport to KHS. We had entered three teams into the secondary school tournament, which unfortunately did not go ahead. Instead, we entered a junior team into the Friday night competition, which our team did extremely well. Thank you to our more experienced players for helping our new players to understand the game and hopefully next year the interest in this game will continue to grow.

We have six students currently rowing with the Cure Club. They are busy training and preparing for the up-and-coming regattas and we wish them the best of luck with their season ahead.

Well done to all our students that have been involved in Wednesday sport this term. We have had teams involved in Junior & Intermediate Girls Touch, 6-aside mixed Hockey, Indoor Football, Girls Tennis, and Canoe Polo. These students have all represented our school well. This term we have also had nine teams playing in the Monday Volleyball competition and we are very grateful for the support we get from our parents and staff to offer these opportunities.

It's great to see so many of our students supporting the local sporting fixtures out on the Touch fields, at the courts playing Twilight Netball, and at the Basketball courts, coaching and refereeing the primary Friday night competition. Keep up the good work.

CONGRATULATIONS to the following students:

  • Lucy Macefield, Lucy Paterson, Jade Lamont, all Year 10, and James Harrison, Year 9, who are now the new cohort of lifeguards at the Waikuku Beach Surf Club. Thank you for keeping us all safe!
  • Lucy Macefield, Year 10, who was selected in the U14 Girls - Canterbury Surfing League.
  • Jess Power, Year 10, who represented KHS at the South Island Secondary School Mounted Games.

Have a happy and safe holiday season and we look forward to seeing you all in 2022!
