PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
Kia Ora everyone We are working hard to continue to support our 2 teachers and 51 children from Room 11 and 12 after the loss of their classroom space. Both classes have been welcomed into the new buildings Kopapa and Tiwai and while it is cosy they are doing a great job making the best of things. We are working with the Ministry of Education to have a temporary solution in place for term 1 on the grass at the front of the school. The permanent solution will then be built on the site of the former classrooms ready for term 3 we are hoping!
It has warmed our hearts to receive so many messages of support from our local community, and schools all around NZ. We have had offers of morning tea and resources for the classroom and for teachers and children. As examples:
- the Belfast/Kaiapoi Rotary club have donated a replacement school hat for each child
- Whitcoulls, Office Max and Eeney Meeney have donated stationery and art supplies for the children and teachers
- Scholastic New Zealand have donated books
-Bunnings have donated sports equipment and pencil cases
- Men’s Shed have donated an outdoor seat
- Kaiapoi New World have offered support and a grant for resources from Foodstuffs
We also have had tremendous support with our Santa Parade Float as below:
Kaiapoi Monograms , Kaiapoi Menz Shed, The Christchurch Fairy Circle, Kaiapoi Lions, Placemakers Kaiapoi, Kaiapoi Community Board, Wentworth Carriers, The Rangiora Warehouse.
- we have also received over $3000.00 in donations from schools, individuals and local businesses including Kaiapoi Borough School, Ashgrove School, Mairehau School, Harewood School, Kaiapoi Cycles and Mowers, Dennis Hughes. How special when others act so kindly - these funds will go towards replacing the personal items lost by children and teachers and to provide special experiences for them in the last few weeks.
We were so excited about the success of our KNS Fair. The funds raised are now going towards landscaping projects around our school to provide plantings, shade, new grass, seating and bark for our old adventure playground area. This funding was boosted further by a very kind $1,600 donation by Harcourts Kaiapoi!
We are certainly ramping up with events, activities and celebrations! Thank you for all of your whanau support for these events, without your willingness to be involved and support with parent help, transport help and as an audience they would not occur. There will be a final newsletter sent home in the last week of term along with a letter with details about class placements for 2019.
On Tuesday evening we celebrated our Performing Arts opportunities at KNS. The variety and skill level of performances entertained the audience. We enjoyed performances from our ukulele group, choir, hip hop teams and school bands. Congratulations to our Year 8 trophy winners Lily Porter (instrumental), and Aiyana Pitama (leadership in Performing Arts). Thank you to our music teacher Mrs Claire Osgood, and performing arts lead teacher Mrs Olivia McCarthy for the superb job in providing opportunities and organising these groups throughout 2018. Thank you also to the other staff who have led these groups and to parents for your support throughout the year.
We are working through our class list placements for 2019. The letter containing the information around this will come in a separate KNS School App alert.
